James Fox
I'm James, a Camera Assistant, Operator, Guarantee and Videographer.
For as long as I can remember, I have had an interest in film and media; as young as 11, I was running around with a camera and tripod trying to become a famous YouTuber! This passion led me to studying Filmmaking at the University of Plymouth, where I'm happy to say I passed with First Class Honours.
I used my time at University to save up, and invest in some of my own equipment, which I used to make short films, as well as doing various videography work ranging from aftermovies for nightclubs, to sit-down interviews, to weddings, to music festivals.
In between all of this, I worked as a Runner on various TV shows, such as 'In For a Penny', 'Happy Campers' and 'The Great Big Tiny Design Challenge'. Fresh out of University, it was intimidating working for big TV companies such as ITV and Channel 4; however, I used these opportunities to make my interests known, and pick the brains of camera operators and DOPs I was working alongside. I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere if I wasn't driven to achieve my goal of working in the camera department.
This paid off, and I was able to work as a Second AC on a feature film which premiered in cinemas across the UK - 'And Then Come the Nightjars' - as well as gain a job on BBC's 'Bargain Hunt', where I was able to film a lot of the insitu and auction room shots. Making my interests known here again, I had the chance to work on 'Casualty' as a Second AC, which I snapped up, just before landing a full-time Camera role at EMG UK, Europe's leading OB company.
This has allowed me to work on major sporting and live events around the world and the UK, on a weekly basis. From the Premier League, EUROs, BAFTAs, 6 Nations, DP World Tour Golf, Trooping the Colour and the Queen's Funeral (just to name a few of the events), I've done it all, whilst getting to work with my passion: cameras.
I haven't stayed still though. In my free time, I continue to hone my skills in videography and photography, whilst also taking my camera on jobs with me abroad. I endeavour to keep up with the latest trends, and this drive to always be achieving more and expand my skillset has also led me to start online courses around topics such as content marketing.
Whilst I know I'm still young and have a lot to improve on, I know I can be an asset to any production or team. As well as all the camera and technical skills I have been able to learn so far, my experience - particularly as a Camera Guarantee - has led me to develop great skills such as organisational and management skills, thinking outside the box and having excellent interpersonal skills, especially with clients.
I can't wait to work with you!
